Do you know on an average, global internet users spent 144 minutes on social media sites every day. This means if we still cut down the minutes it will be approx 2 hours per day. Now, take a small minute pause and think how much time do you spend on a daily basis using these social media platforms?
If you are still confused and not able to find out the simple method you can go in your phone’s setting and watch out the battery usage per day. Here, you will get the accurate time you use these social media platform. If we take a minimum calculation then also it will come around 1 – 1.5 hours per day. Now the thing is how come this much time? It’s quite simple :
There comes a pop-up notification. You browse that platform for a while and switch to another platform and this chain loop goes on. The bright colours of the applications and attractive graphics release a good amount of feel-good hormone in your brain which is known as “dopamine” and sooner you get addicted to your phone or towards these social media platform. Do you know how these social media platforms force you to attract you towards themselves?
You will be shocked to know that you are “forced” to browse these social media platforms and forced to spend more time daily. You find it as if you are controlling these apps and your phone but, in reality, these applications are controlling you. These applications have their own huge server setup, databases, system monitoring tools which use tons of data algorithms and intelligence to find out your nature, your likings, what things will attract you. These calculations are done in milliseconds and once it is done you are constantly fetched with the articles, feeds, notifications so that you spend more and more time browsing these apps.
Have you ever thought what are your gains? It is NOTHING. If you think sharing your lifestyle, creating a showoff phase and displaying your life to everyone will affect them, you are completely wrong. This will create a more negative, competitive, aggressive and depressed image inside you. You are just wasting your time for the day. You could have easily done something more productive like reading good books, watching good quality self-development videos, learning something new, getting involved in yogas and exercises and so many more thing.
Can you imagine if you manage to get away from this trap and save at least a minimum of 60 minutes i.e 1 hour every day you will manage to save 30 hours in a month which means 360 hours in a year. What does it mean? This means you will be able to save 15 days in a year. This is a minimum saving. You can easily manage to save up to a month. Your time is precious.
Learn to control this type of bad and ugly addictions. You can delete waste applications which throw a lot of notifications every day because the more you get attracted towards your phone the more you spend time browsing the apps. You can create a good hobby and spend your free time in it like painting, reading books, fitness activities or anything which you like. Deviate your mind towards these hobbies instead of sticking to these apps.
If you wish to spend 5 mins-15 mins on social media platforms you can use your desktop to browse. This way you spend less time as compared to the mobile phone which is handier and easily accessible anywhere. Learn t0 control your feelings and emotions. Do not let a machine learning, artificial intelligence code rule your thoughts and actions. Try to figure out what is right and what is wrong.
Follow these practices and at the end of the year, you will be shocked to see how you managed to save more than a month and devoted your time in more productive and self-development things.
